To a certain extent, we successfully specified locations where the Shibusawa Films were shot on the island of Kikaijima, based on the results of interviews. By using shots selected from over 300 available photographs as the main research materials, we explored specific themes such as “the beach” as a place, or “horses” as tools for farming, an important aspect of everyday life. By doing so, we were able to understand that the factors that constitute changes in scenery over time were not only limited to the photographed object, but also include external factors enveloping the object itself, which were manifestations of the social changes that were surging over Kikaijima Island at the time.
